Welsh and Welsh Culture at Bro Teifi

Welsh is the principal medium of life and work in Ysgol Bro Teifi with the aim of ensuring that every pupil can use both languages to the best of his or her ability by the time he / she leaves school.  English is introduced to pupils in the curriculum at 7 years of age. Ysgol Bro Teifi will endeavour to:

  • enable all pupils to develop the use of the two languages naturally
  • foster awareness and pride in the culture, traditions and heritage of Wales among our pupils that will be the basis to expand their horizons, their knowledge and awareness of Wales' relationship with Europe and the world.
  • enable pupils to apply for jobs where Welsh is necessary or advantageous

For primary age pupils, the local authority's language centres offer immersion opportunities for your child to learn Welsh in a short period of time and they will quite quickly be able to continue their education through the medium of Welsh at our school. You can opt for Welsh Medium education for your child at a later point in time as well so that they can access welsh medium education at secondary age when transferring into Year 7. This is done through a mixture of immersion and accelerated learning opportunities.
